2020-2021 7th Grade Band Information
Q. Does everyone need to be in band?
A. No, they do not. 6th grade students are able to decide this year whether they will or will not be in band next year.
Q. Do I have to march if I’m in band?
A. No, 7th graders do not march with the marching band.
Q. Do I have to stay after school for band?
A. Other than the concerts, there are no other requirements outside of the regular school day for 7th grade band. There will be two evening concerts, one in December and one in May, that students are required to participate in.
Q. What if I don’t know what I want to play?
A. The directors will be available to answer any questions you have and help you choose.
Q. Do I have to buy my instrument?
A. No, the band provides all the instruments and equipment for the band students.
Q. Does it cost anything to be in band?
A. No, there are no fees and students do not have to purchase anything to be in band.
Q. What will we be doing in band if I join?
A. If you are in the band next year, you will come to class and learn how to put your instrument together, hold it properly, make sound, and learn your notes on it.
Q. If I join next year, do I have to join in 8th grade?
A. No, each year is decided one at a time. This year, you’re only deciding for 7th grade year.
Q. If I don’t join next year, can I join later?
A. No, if you miss the year where we are first learning our instruments, you won’t be able to play any of the music we learn in the later years. The band handbook also does not allow for this.
Q. I’m afraid I won’t be good.
A. And that’s ok. No one is “good” when they first start learning. The hope is that you’ll choose to be in band because you want to learn an instrument. You’ll have three really great teachers who will help you every step of the way, and as long as you play in class every day, you’ll get better.
Q. I have a question that wasn’t on here.
